While we love using garlic in our meals and dishes, I absolutely hate having to chop and slice it. It sounds silly, since it’s a relatively easy thing to do. But no matter what I do, my hands get sticky and I’ll smell like garlic for hours after chopping the garlic. There’s no doubt that fresh garlic has more flavor and is best for recipes, so I’ve been looking for something that would make this task easier.
I was sent a Garlic Cube by RSVP International. The tiny kitchen gadget not only chops, but it slices your garlic with little effort. And it has one of my favorite kitchen qualities – it’s Dishwasher Safe – all of it – not just parts! The Garlic Cube only measures 2.5″ x 2.5″ x 3″, so it wont take up a lot of counter or cabinet space. But it’s what’s inside that really matters.
Inside your Garlic Cube you have two different cutting options one for cubing and one for slicing. The center of the cube is actually a drawer that flips both ways (be sure to put the opening up for the side you’re actually using). That means not only will your garlic be cubed or sliced, but all of the product will be contained in the drawer.
To use the Garlic Cube you simply put a clove of garlic on top of the grate you want and push the top down. Using the Garlic Cube doesn’t mean that you wont have to cut the root end off and remove the skin before using it – trust me, you’re going to want those off before you use the press. But with a little pressure on the top, you will have perfectly cubed or sliced garlic for your recipe.
The small size of the Garlic Cube means you wont be able to do more than one large clove of garlic at a time. But it’s easy enough to do it multiple times for small batches. I did notice some garlic trapped in the cutting grates, but they come out easily with a rinse under the faucet or in the dishwasher.
Once you’re done using your Garlic Press, you can take all of the pieces apart and put them in your dishwasher. The small grates fit well in your utensil bins, and because it is made out of plastic – I placed the rest on the top shelf. The Garlic Press is extremely easy to use, cleans easily, and keeps the smelly oils from fresh garlic off your hands.
