Traveling with Kids

Where have you traveled with your family? Going on a family vacation can be a fun and memorable experience, however, deciding where to visit can be a difficult decision with so many diverse and fascinating destination options. No matter what part of the world you are considering, check out these ideas for kid-friendly destinations worth visiting.

Types of destinations

When deciding where to travel with your family, consider your interests. Adventure-seeking families are in for a thrill when they visit theme parks. If you are nature-lovers, then check out world-famous natural features and parks. History buff families might consider a place with plenty of museums and historical sights.

Traveling in the U.S.

When traveling with kids in the U.S., you can find just about anything to do, from getting an up-close view of stunning nature to catching all the rides at theme parks.

Catch breathtaking views when you visit national parks like the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the unbelievable geysers and hot springs at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, or the tallest tree in the world at Sequoia National Park in California.

For a thrill, visit Florida’s theme parks in Orlando and the space exhibits in Cape Canaveral. Washington D.C. offers history and fun at the Smithsonian with kids’ activities, like motion simulation rides, natural history exhibits, planetarium, and more.

China

For a location filled with entertainment, museums, culture, and cuisine, consider the bustling city of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Science Museum and Museum of History are must-see attractions that are next to one another and have hands-on exhibits. Trick Eye Museum lets you pose with 3-D artwork, and don’t miss Po Lin Monastery’s giant Buddha statue.

The choice of food available is enormous, but not to be missed are the delicious dim sum steamed dumplings.

If you are planning to stay in the country for an extended period as a family, perhaps for career reasons, you will need to think seriously about schooling. An ideal solution would be one of the American international schools in Hong Kong. The well-respected international schools offer programs that work well for students from around the world, and the specialty programs they provide will qualify and guide students toward a future at an outstanding university.

Visiting the U.K.

International travel in an English-speaking destination like the U.K. might be right for your family. The Isle of Wight off the south coast of England has a natural beauty, with sandy beaches, rugged hillsides and beautiful harbors. Get outdoors with horse-riding, cycling, water sports, paragliding, hovercraft rides, and more. The local theme park features realistic models of dinosaurs, hedge mazes, pirate adventures, and cowboy attractions for kids.

Scotland is a dream for history and outdoors enthusiasts. Ancient castles bring the past to life, while fairy legends on the Isle of Skye are sure to entertain. Hiking and biking trails are excellent for connecting with nature, with views of the rugged coastline, waterfalls, and moors.

Costa Rica

If your family is looking for tropical rainforest adventures, Costa Rica has you covered. This vacation spot is great for older kids and teenagers. You can zip-line across the rainforest, scope out unique wildlife, and enjoy all that nature has to offer. Travel to a protected area that is set up for family-friendly tourism is recommended.

Whether you travel near or far, there are many excellent destinations to consider. An important part of figuring out where to go is thinking about your interests. No matter which destination you choose, your travels will create wonderful memories for your family.
