Ever have one of those nights where you just want something yummy and you’re sick of the same-ol-same-ol? That’s the mood I was in today – I picked up some hamburger and then got stumped at what to make.I didn’t want it to be the same things we always have and I didn’t want something out of a box. This is what I came up with, and it was a crowd pleaser! You can tweak this recipe to include items that are Halal. Let me know if you make it!
Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon white salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 4 russet potatoes – thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup – For Gluten Free use the gluten free condensed soup mix!
  • 1 small onion, chopped (about 1/3 cup)
  • 3/4 milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions:

  1. In a skillet cook the ground beef with onion, until well cooked. Rinse and drain fat.
  2. Return to pan and add in garlic, salt and black pepper; cook stirring with a wooden spoon until the garlic is softened, approximately 3-4 minutes. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl mix together the soup mix with milk, sour cream, Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder; mix well to combine.
  4. In a greased 13 x 9-inch baking dish or a large oval casserole dish, alternately layer the sliced potatoes on bottom of the baking dish, then soup mixture, then the ground beef mixture on top. Top with 1 cup shredded cheese, then repeat.
  5. Bake covered with foil for about 1 hour at 350 degrees F.
  6. Uncover and continue baking for another 20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender (baking time will vary depending on the thickness of your sliced potatoes).

  1. i have this in the oven now I have made recipes similar I liked the Parmesan cheese and sour cream added in idea but I think mixing the hamburger in the soup sounds a lot tastier like the ones I tried and I always micro the potatos before as well they soak up the taste so much more, tried both ways, and shorter cooking time just my FYI

  2. I loved this idea for dinner. I chopped the potatoes instead of slicing, added Worcestershire sauce , mushrooms, and cooked in a pot on the stove. When people serves themselves they added the cheese a drop of additional sour cream. Yummy!!!
