Valentine's Day Traditions

Love takes many shapes and forms, but when you find it – it’s one of the best things in the world. It starts small, and you may even be afraid to take the leap. But that first step is the beginning of your journey and you never know where it takes you.

Although it is pretty much a common story now, meeting someone online in the early 2000’s was something people just didn’t do. But that is exactly where our story started. We met online and after weeks of talking online and on the phone we decided to meet up and go out. Our first date – dinner and then going to a club for one of my friend’s birthday parties. There was an instant connection, and within three weeks we were officially together, and now almost fifteen years later – we still are.

We ran off to Vegas three months into our relationship – to see Robin Williams!

Through the years, our story has taken across the country and back several times. Finishing our degrees and getting a new home together. We’ve had pets together and our relationship has changed over the years but our love has stayed strong.

When you first start dating you’re in a love bubble and Valentine’s Day means fancy date nights and flowers and gifts. But quickly we found we hate crowds of people at the holidays and the two hour waits for a table. I learned his Step-Mother’s stuffed shells recipe and it has become our traditional dinner each year at Valentine’s Day, with our own twist on it.

Today, love means helping each other out when we need it. Small acts of love and devotion and not the grandiose over time. We do small gifts, but instead prefer experiences. So this year, I’m taking him to a Cabaret show and to a new place to experience together. Love is always changing, and so are our traditions. But our commitment together and standing by each other after all of these years is strong.
