easter beagle giveawayEaster is right around the corner and of course we’re celebrating with Peanuts! They sent us a great Easter package for the holiday, and one to give to a reader all to get ready for spring, Easter and of course the Easter Beagle!

We love including Snoopy and the Peanuts gang into our holidays and traditions, but none of that would be possible without the original Peanuts comic strips.

How did the Easter Beagle get started?

A Hopping Debut

  • Snoopy first appeared as “the Easter Bunny” on April 14, 1968, but Charles Schulz did not give the character the name “the Easter Beagle” until three years later.
  • In that first 1968 strip, Linus was the only one to witness “the Easter Bunny” dancing around the front yard and hiding eggs in the bushes—Lucy was too busy watching television to notice.
  • On Sunday, April 11, 1971, the Easter Beagle made his official comic-strip debut. Again, Linus was the first one to interact with him (although it’s Lucy who gets the Beagle kiss!).
  • As with the Great Pumpkin, Linus is often the Easter Beagle’s messenger in the comic strips, alerting the other characters to the upcoming appearance of the Easter Beagle.
  • During his April 2, 1972 appearance, the Easter Beagle delivers eggs to the members of the Peanuts gang…but discovers his basket is empty when he gets to Charlie Brown. This idea was adapted into the animated television special.
  • Fortunately, the following year, on April 22, 1973, Charlie Brown does receive an Easter egg—this time from the Easter Beagle’s assistant: Woodstock!
  • After two more Easter Beagle strips in 1975 and 1976, the character made his last appearance on April 7, 1985—when Sally got the Charlie Brown treatment.
  • Charles Schulz once said in an interview that the Easter Beagle was his favorite of all of Snoopy’s alter egos.

  1. My family goes camping every year for Easter. We bring all of the comforts of home, but we’re outdoors. It’s a ton of fun!

  2. Coloring Easter Eggs with my 6 and 4 year old is my favorite. We started a tradition 2 years ago (my 6 year old thought of it) that we have to eat Jelly Beans while dyeing our Easter Eggs 🙂

  3. We like to color Easter eggs and go on an Easter egg hunt. We also like to make a big dinner and watch Easter specials.

  4. My favorite tradition is one we just started last year, we filled the eggs with glow sticks and had a night egg hunt! Oh it was so much fun!

  5. My favorite Easter tradition is watching my little nephews hunt for their Easter baskets, hidden by the Easter Bunny during his night-time visit. Thank you for the fun giveaway.

  6. My favorite Easter tradition is making and decorating sugar cookies with the kids! Thanks so much for the opportunity!

  7. When our kids were young, we always hid real eggs inside, and plastic eggs in the backyard. Now we continue that tradition with our grandsons.

  8. My favorite tradition is the Easter egg hunt that happens after the kids have gotten their homemade baskets of goodies.

  9. Please forgive me for being repetitive. I am a bit obsessed with Snoopy’s heroic alter ego, the Flying Ace. My grandfather adored him so. He had been a flight instructor in the U.S. Navy. And he would have the Flying Ace put on the side of his private planes. I loved that about him. I miss him so. I guess that he fueled my obsession. I love the Flying Ace, and I am completely obsessed with him and the rest of the Peanuts gang. I don’t know, maybe in a way I feel like I am connected with my grandfather’s soul all because of that sweet little heroic beagle.

  10. I like to make a Traditional Easter Egg yellow roll log, made by boiling down egg yellows, milk, salt & sugar, you low boil it stirring constantly when thickened strain it in cheesecloth or a tea towel over sink till it drips all liquid out about 2 or more hours, refrigerate, slice and enjoy with your Holiday Easter meal.

  11. My daughter and I go shopping Easter weekend. We have lunch and we shop and spend the day together and then we go home and watch movies together. She is getting older and it is important to me that we spend time together and make the most of celebrations.

  12. My favorite Easter tradition, besides baskets for the young ones, is actually a Polish Family tradition. We take our Easter food, placed in a basket, and take it to be blessed by a local priest. This is our Easterr a morning breakfast.
