Cariloha Makena Bamboo Beach Bag Review & Giveaway #Earthday

Cariloha beach Bag

With Spring just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about getting outside, in the sun and even hitting the beach. I finally have seen my first crocus in the garden, so even in Detroit the thought of warm weather is only a few weeks away. One of my favorite non-holiday celebrations is in the spring – Earth Day! It’s not a huge celebration day, but helps us teach younger generations about green and sustainable practices. It’s also a great way to find new Green products for your home, to help you with keeping a sustainable household. This month we’re going to focus on some products that are not only green and good for the environment, but just great products in general.

It was only a few months ago I was down in the Caribbean, and enjoying the heat and the sun. It was during the trip, and one a couple years ago I first was introduced to Cariloha. They focus on products made out of sustainable materials – more specifically Bamboo. You can find everything at their tropical and coastal locations from clothing, accessories, bedding, towels and even socks. Cariloha sent me a few items to feature for Earth Day, including their new Makena Beach Bag.

Why Bamboo? Bamboo is one of the quickest re-newable resources out there. You can grow, use and re-grow bamboo shoots in matter of a couple years. Traditional wood products take decades for the type of growth that a bamboo grove can do in a matter of a year or two. But besides the renew-ability of bamboo, when turned into thread, the resulting fabric is extremely soft and sturdy.

Normally when I feature a bag I like to take it outside and take a few great shots in a beautiful setting. What would be more appropriate for a beach bag made out of bamboo? Unfortunately, we’ve have still been getting rain and bone chilling days. I didn’t think it would be right to take such a beautiful bag out into the mud to take pictures. The bag will is completely washable, but I didn’t want to test that out just yet.

The Cariloha Makena Beach Bag is large enough to carry your beach gear, or to use as an every day essentials bag. The bag is bright blue and orange, which bring a bit of summer sunshine where ever you take it. Attached to the corded handles is a small zipping pouch that actually is attached with a removable cord. This can be a great place to stash your money, medicine or could even be used as a small clutch if you didn’t want to take the whole bag with you.

Inside the Makena beach bag you have the main liner as well as a secondary liner. The secondary liner can be closed with pull cords and is attached about half way up the interior of the bag. This allows the secondary liner to be used as a separator, a sand guard or it can be pulled up above to help expand the interior of the bag and cover your items from rain.

Besides the Makena being a beautiful bag, it is well designed and sturdy. It is, of course, designed as a beach bag but works great as an every day bag. It has traveled with me around town, to campus and will be even going to events. I love the pop of color as well as all of the small functional features designed into the bag. And my favorite part – it is a sustainable product made in a green way. The colors and size of the bag are going to make the Makena my go to bag this summer.

  1. I love Cariloha and DelSol. I would actually choose the Makena bag because of the detachable pouch, but I like the Makua bag too. Makes me think of summers in Mackinaw. Thanks for sharing!

  2. The Makena is cute but I think I like the colors on Turtle Bay better. Too bad the Makena doesn’t come in those colors! So Turtle Bay it is.

  3. Cariloha has a lot of nice beach bags. All of the colors are perfect for the sun. My favorite is the Bamboo Beach Bag – Sunset.
