Helping in the kitchen is always a lot of fun as a kid, but it’s also a great way for your little ones to learn basic math skills. Measurements and cutting can help you teach your child fractions and how to separate things out. Because kids love helping in the kitchen and baking is one of the easiest ways to make math easy to understand, LeapFrog made their Number Lovin’ Oven.
In last month’s LeapFrog Ambassador box we were thrilled to get the Number Lovin’ Oven to review. We love to spend time in the kitchen and so does Goonie. The parts are big enough that they can be enjoyed by kids as young as two, but overall the set could be played with by older kids as well. The set comes with the oven, a pan with cutouts to bake bread, two cupcakes and even a pizza, two plates, a serving spatula, and a skillet for the top burners. The top left burner has a pressure sensor that activates a sizzling sound a prompt about cooking eggs when you place the skillet on top.
The inside of the oven doesn’t have racks inside, but the baking pan slides in fully. You can actually have all of the baked goods on the baking sheet and fit it in the oven at once time, or your kids can “bake” what they want as they pretend to cook and bake.
And when the baked goods are not in the oven? they can actually be broken up so kids are encouraged to share and learn how basic fractions make up a whole item. The Number Lovin’ Oven has numbers included on the items, as well as on the oven front which is actually a five heat level oven! Each part helps your child learn number association and encourages them to learn while playing.
Besides teaching numbers, counting, and sharing the Number Lovin’ Oven has 30 different prompts and songs included. There are songs about warming up, timing and fractions. The Number Lovin’ Oven will not only get your kid interested in math (without them knowing it) but will allow them to encourage learning math and counting skills.
Two things we absolutely loved about the Number Lovin’ Oven were things kids never will worry about. The oven actually has a on and off switch to conserve battery, but has two different levels of volume as well. And when the Number Lovin’ Oven isn’t in use, you can actually fit all of the pieces inside the oven for easy storage! Everything fits neatly inside and the door closes to secure it.
The Number Lovin’ Oven is sturdy and will last through many years of heavy play, and is only $25! You can find the Number Lovin’ Oven online or at retailers near you.
