If you’re not a fan of the jump scare type scary movie, there is a good chance you still enjoy a psychological thriller. One that will have you guessing what is happening – can still be scary and give you goosebumps, while not making you stay up all night after watching it. And that is exactly what you can expect from The Night House.
The Night House follows the story of Beth as she comes to terms with the death of her husband. The house he designed and built, which was their haven of love and safety suddenly isn’t the same anymore. With radios turning on randomly and bad dreams plaguing her – the house is the least of the issues. Beth starts to question everything and wonder if she even knew her husband at all – but the reality is much darker than she expected.

With minimal jump scares, The Night House does actually keep you wondering what is going on. With red herrings and misdirection being used throughout the movie you may wonder if Beth is actually grounded in reality or if she is seeing things.
But one thing the movie does do – shows an accurate portrayal of a grieving spouse. Often, they are pushed to the side or just forced to muddle through in movies (and life as well). But the movie allows Beth to grieve, the mix of hope and despair is felt throughout her character. And it’s actually what is used to push her story to the limits – is it her grief causing the issues or is it something else?
There is an interesting twist in the tale and one that most viewers won’t see coming, the movie will keep your attention and will be one that you’ll want to go back to and watch again to see if you can find the details hidden in plain sight.

The Night House is now available on Diearchlight Pictures’ psychological-thriller, The Night House, will be available on digital October 5 and on Blu-ray and DVD October 19. It’s the perfect movie to help kick off your scary movie night.
