Sometimes, our childhood favorite books make it to the big screen. And sometimes, when you hear it you scream like the eight year old who first fell in love with the book. That’s right folks, Disney is bringing Roald Dahl’s the BFG to theaters next July.
Roald Dahl is the author of the BFG, The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits and several other favorite books of children everywhere. Once Disney released James and the Giant Peach and re-did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I held out some hope that someday we’d see the BFG on the screen.
The BFG – or Big Friendly Giant, is the story of Sophie, a young book worm that encounters something magnificent out her window one day – a Giant! While some giants are surely scary, this one was friendly and was dubbed the BFG. The BFG takes Sophie on adventures and carries her to the land of the Giants where she learns about different giants and the dangers of them. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams.
The story of the BFG and Sophie is full of love and excitement and one that all kids will love. And I don’t know that I can be more excited to see it finally coming to theaters. Director Stephen Spielberg released an exclusive preview – and you can see it below!
