Kids have been out of school a couple weeks now at least – but you’ve probably heard “I’m bored” thousands of times. Keeping kids entertained in the summer can be hard to do, even if they have a room full of toys. But to keep them busy, and happy, this summer it doesn’t take hours of video games or computer time – think back to what made our childhoods so great, more simple toys that create hours of fun and giggles.
We’re getting ready for our big annual barbecue and will have kids all over the yard this year – and we’re planning on keeping them entertained with our bubble machine, chalk and a few goodies from Oriental Trading. They asked me to share some fun summer ideas for kids – and guess what – none of these will break your bank! These are just a few of my favorite ideas and things to keep kids busy, and they only cost a few dollars for usually a dozen so enough for your kids and friends. Bubbles – One of my favorite memories is sitting out on the steps with my mom and grandparents blowing bubbles – and that was only a few years ago. We’re never too old for bubbles! Oriental Trading has bubbles in wands, in small pods and my favorite – in Gummy Bears – not only are they adorable, but kids (of all ages) will love playing with them.
Paddle Ball – It’s a simple, and old fashioned game, and can help with hand eye coordination. You can find a lot of fun shaped ones, but they even have some LEGO shaped ones. Perfect for the little builders in your life, or for planning your own block themed party.
Rubber Duckies – OK, so is there ever a reason to not to have rubber duckies? We always have one for our parties theme for our friends and family to take with them when they leave. Want one shaped like a rabbit? No problem! Astronauts? They’ve got them! And who doesn’t love a rubber duck? The selection is huge, and they’re great to add to your own rubber ducky collection.
Noise Putty – Besides being super fun to play with and bright colors – noise putty is going to send your kids into fits of laughter. Press down into the canister and it lets out a farting noise that both little boys and girls will think is hilarious.
