It’s in a not so far off future, space travel is normal and not what we see it as today. But Ad Astra, at its heart has is more than a journey to the stars. It’s the story of a son’s journey to find his father, sins of the father and finding himself through his journeys.
Shot and rendered with remarkable realism, you will find yourself on a trip to the Moon, to Mars and even Neptune as Roy (Brad Pitt) heads to the farthest points in space to find his father and stop power surges that are affecting different parts of the universe.
The movie does have an interesting story, but it has a slow moving way of telling it. With a minimal soundtrack, the quiet tone of the movie will make you wish you opened your snacks before the movie started. The supporting cast of Liv Tyler and Tommy Lee Jones mostly show up in videos and flash backs – with very little screen time. And the narration from Brad Pitt tells most of the story.
One of the best parts of the movie is seeing how space travel has become so normal. With Virgin Atlantic as the main carrier, space air ports become normal and travel to the Moon becomes something obtainable not just to astronauts. This futuristic look seems almost obtainable and something to look forward to.
Head out to stars and beyond with Ad Astra when it hits theaters. Ad Astra will be in theaters everywhere on September 20th.
