A Step By Step Guide To The Perfect Family Road Trip

Does the perfect family road trip exist? It can, if you make sure you have everything you need to have an awesome time! A road trip can be a great excuse to spend time together in the car, singing, laughing, and chatting away. It can also be a way to explore somewhere that you’ve never been before. Let’s take a look at the steps you need to take to have an amazing time:

Step 1: Create a Playlist For Everyone

Start by creating a playlist for the whole family. Get input from everyone and make sure it’s long enough to last the duration of the trip.

Step 2: Stock Up On Drinks And Snacks

By having plenty of drinks and snacks you won’t need to stop too much or spend too much money at gas stations. You need to be prepared, especially with young kids.

Step 3: Plan For Rest Stops

Planning for rest stops, especially with younger kids, is one of the most important things you can do. Always assume your trip is going to take longer than usual and take the time to get out of the car, use the bathroom, and stretch your legs. Get some fresh air and enjoy where you are. Don’t rush to your destination! If you’re traveling through a specific region, be sure to try something traditional like a Charleston breakfast.

Step 4: Know What To Do In The Event Of An Emergency

Make sure you know exactly what to do in the event of an emergency. This can change depending on where you are. For example, in France you have to have a traffic cone and wear bright vests. Have the number of a car accident lawyer and your insurance on hand, and take precautions beforehand to ensure this emergency does not take place. Check over your car thoroughly and take your time.

You’ll also want to take everything you could possibly need with you – spare clothes, a torch, phone chargers, etc. You never know how the weather may change or what might happen!

Step 5: Take Games And Entertainment For Kids

Chatting the whole way is a nice idea, but things don’t always work out that way. Kids can get bored and restless. Take games and entertainment along for them to keep them quiet.

Step 6: Keep A Few Surprises Up Your Sleeve

Don’t give everything away right away. Keep a few games and toys up your sleeve as a surprise, as the novelty can quickly wear off for kids. You might even want a planned activity along the way, such as geocaching.

Step 7: Fill Up The Tank

Don’t forget to fill up the tank before you leave. You might not see a gas station for miles!

Step 8: Get Started!

Once you have completed the above you can set off. Remember; you can’t expect this to be a fairy tale road trip. Families bicker. Just go with the flow and enjoy yourself – don’t let a tantruming toddler or moody teen ruin it for you!

Where will you go on your family road trip?
