5 Things To Know Before Buying A Brand New Car

The thought of a brand-new car is exciting; it’s a vehicle that’s truly yours and nobody else has driven it before! Yes, new cars are more expensive but you don’t have to deal with an annoying seller – nor will there be any frustrating negotiations. It’s a straightforward process of finding your dream car and buying it.

With that being said, you must be aware of a few things before buying a brand-new car. These things catch some people off-guard, so it helps to learn of them in advance!

Different Finance Options Are Available

You don’t have to pay the full price of your car in one go. Hardly anyone does this as it’s an incredibly costly purchase; the preferred choice is to finance the car. Different finance options are available when buying brand-new vehicles to make them easier to afford. You can pay a few hundred dollars per month, rather than $50,000 in one go.

Be aware of the different options as some are better than others. Pay close attention to interest rates – if you’re offered a finance deal with no interest, it will almost always be better than one with interest. Keep in mind that putting down a bigger deposit can help you lower the monthly costs as well.

Some Dealers Have Special Offers

Talking about bigger deposits, loads of new car dealers will have special offers when you buy a car from them. This commonly consists of a contribution towards your deposit. A dealer may say they’ll contribute $2,000 to your deposit. If your maximum limit going in was $3,000, you can do one of two things:

There’s no right or wrong answer here; either decision helps you save money! Always look for special offers as it helps you determine where to buy your car. Why buy a brand-new car from one dealership when another provides money towards the deposit?!

Delivery Isn’t Always Provided

When you purchase a brand-new car, you might assume the dealership will deliver it to your door. Indeed, this service is offered by some dealers, but not all of them. Look at the terms & conditions when buying a new car to see if they’ll deliver it. Many dealers only accept collections because they don’t want to pay for delivery.

If that’s the case, you have two options: collect the car yourself, or arrange for it to be collected and delivered by a long distance towing company. Most of us prefer to get our cars delivered, so working with a company can ensure someone turns up at the dealership on your behalf, loads the car into a trailer, and transports it straight to your door. Don’t make the mistake of buying a car and then realizing the dealer won’t deliver it!

New Cars Still Need To Be Serviced

Despite being a brand-new purchase, your car still needs to be serviced. Worry not, you won’t have to service it immediately – or even within the first few months. Like all cars, your new one should be serviced every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. For 99.9999% of the population, this will be every 12 months.

Lots of new car owners assume they don’t need to service their vehicle after the first 12 months because it’s super new. Regardless, lots can happen to a car in a year, so servicing is necessary to ensure it remains healthy and safe. Don’t neglect this or you’ll considerably weaken the car’s longevity.

Insure Will Be Costly

This is something to keep in mind if you’re debating whether to buy a new car. Insuring a brand-new automobile is likely going to be expensive. Other things factor into your car insurance premium – like your age, driving experience, and accident history. However, brand-new cars are extremely valuable, so they’ll cost more than average to insure.

It’s a thing to ponder before buying as you’ll need to be sure you can afford the insurance. Some of you might prefer to pay for a year’s insurance upfront while others like to split it up. Going back to the point from earlier about dealerships offering special deals, it makes sense to take the money saved by the deal and use that for your car insurance!

Purchasing a brand-new car can be a brilliant decision if you can afford the financing and insurance. They’re the only two negative aspects of getting a new car, but be aware of all the other points so you know what you’re getting into.
