22 vs Earth animated short review

If you loved Pixar’s Soul, you may have been left with a lot of questions after watching the movie. Heck, we had some while watching it. We are introduced to 22, a soul in The Great Before who has failed every challenge by choice because she refuses to go to Earth. But why did this young soul get so jaded? So sassy and what was her story before she met Joe? There’s a lot more to this unborn soul than meets the eye.

While the movie Soul focuses more around Joe’s story and his interaction with 22, Pixar has decided to give us a little insight into 22’s past and other lessons she has learned. Their new animated short 22 vs Earth is just one chapter, in what we think could be a whole series of lessons and battles that 22 has before she meets Joe and gets all of her badges.

With the same voice cast and beautiful animation as the movie, 22 vs Earth looks like it’s just a moment swiped from the original movie and a cut scene we were never given. The short is only about 6 minutes but is cute enough that you’re going to want to watch it. The only thing negative we have to say about it is that it creates more questions and we just want to see more about 22 and her past!

About 22 vs. Earth

Set before the events of Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” 22 defies the rules of The Great Before and refuses to go to Earth, enlisting a gang of five other new souls in her attempt at rebellion. However, as her cohorts’ activities lead to unexpected results, 22’s subversive plot may actually lead to a surprising revelation about the meaning of life.

Directed by Kevin Nolting and produced by Lourdes Alba, “22 vs. Earth” is now streaming on Disney+.
