Nothing in our lives is guaranteed. Not the future we dreamed of, not the career we hoped for, no matter what we hope and believe. But that fact has never stopped me from believing things will work out. I’m undeniably an optimist despite my efforts to be a realist.
I’m from the generation that was told that we go to school, get a degree and get a career. I was raised to get my degree, career then get married and have a family. But that formula was broken by the time we sank a small fortune into our degrees. A large portion of us walked out of college proud of degrees and into… unemployment. The market crashed and we were left with giant bills we couldn’t (and often still can’t) pay back. The job market has improved some, but it definitely isn’t what it was in decades past.
Since graduating with my masters degree, I was laid off, worked at a college until the doors closed and have been without a job for what seems like more time than I’ve had a job. But that doesn’t stop me from pushing forward, dreaming and coming up with great ideas. I refuse to be caught off guard if it happens again. I refuse to be a victim of a bad market. Through the times of unemployment I’ve honed my crafts for marketing, I’ve learned how to stretch the dollar even further. I have turned our small yard into our own urban farm, and have started the steps to make our home self sufficient as far as food. We’re still perfecting our little urban paradise, but I know that even in hte hard times we will make it.
Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.
Please hop along and read all of the blog posts in this weeks hop. Just click the links below. If you want real and raw emotion, then you will find it here. After you read each post, please comment and share. We want to get to know you too!
