Strawberry Dessert Sushi

I’m not a big sushi person, I guess I should just put out there first. Part of it is a sea food allergy, the rest is a bad dating experience from years back. But I was intrigued when I was asked to try Rice Wraps. They’re pre-made sushi rice that is cut to size, you just roll and enjoy.

Rice Wraps

Rice Wrap Foods sent the bloggers of the Blogger Recipe Challenge some of their new products to try. Every blogger received white rice wraps, a brown rice wrap, a rolling mat and some extra goodies. Once your rice wraps are at room temperature you can add in what you want and make your own sushi rolls.

I found that the Rice Wraps actually work best when they are warmer than room temperature. Use your microwave to warm them up a bit more (30-45 seconds) once they are out of their packaging. You can roll them smoothly with minimal cracking. I played with mine a bit, and I’m going to admit it – I’m sushi rolling deficient! They weren’t round, square – they were just weird looking. So I decided to go another direction – sushi clouds! Rice Wraps actually makes sushi clouds as well, but their wraps are perfectly cooked sushi rice.. and let’s just say I was in the mood for dessert still – it is still dessert month! I cut a small portion off the rice wrap and rolled it in my hand making a perfect cloud. Each wrap makes 5-6 clouds.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet Rice Wraps Sushi Rice
  • 2-3 Strawberries – very ripe!
  • honey

Directions:

  1. Cut your rice wrap into strips, and using the palm of your hand create a “cloud” with your rice strips. They will be about 1/2 in thick and side and 2 inches long.
  2. Slice your strawberries and put one of the sides facing up at the top. Lyer slices on top until your cloud is covered.
  3. Drizzle with honey
  4. Enjoy!

Strawberry Dessert Sushi

Yes, I know the sushi purist are yelling and shaking their hands at me! But the sweet berries with the honey with the rice and the vinegar play well with each other. It’s extremely simple to make and look visually stunning. Play around with them and maybe your kids will come up with some creative ways to eat their fruits and veggies!

Rice Wraps is currently running a crowd funding campaign – if they reach their goal they’ll be able to bring Rice Wraps to the market and save at home sushi chefs the time it takes to make that rice! Check out their FundRazr campaign here! Be sure to check back tomorrow for a huge giveaway of Rice Wraps products for our readers!
