Slowly we’re moving towards a completely smart house, with lights and accessories we can control with our phones and even when we’re not home. But one thing that we hadn’t figured out was found a way for the house to clean itself. I’m in love with having a dishwasher to make the life easier, but that doesn’t help me keep the floors clean and cleaning up the cat hair that quickly accumulates on the floor.
Enter the bObi Vacuum Cleaner. We were sent one to test out around the house, and let’s be truthful here – to torture my cats a bit. The cats are never a fan of a vacuum running, so I was interested to see how they would react to having a vacuum taking off around the house. bObi not only vacuums your floor, but you can add the mop extension on and have it mop your floors as well (more on that later). It will come with a charging dock that is paired with, a user manual and a remote control that you can use to program your own bObi.
Taking bObi out of the box, she was much bigger than I originally thought. Measuring over a foot side and about 2-3 inches thick. bObi can stand up on it’s edge and is a couple of pounds when you lift it. On the face of bObi there isn’t anything at looks like a way to control the vacuum. But a gentle touch to the face and the controls will light up. You will have the option to choose “Go” “Juice” and “Waffle”. Go is the setting you can choose if you just want bObi to clean your floors without programming, you just select Go. The “Juice” setting will send bObi on a 15 minute cleaning spree through an area, and “Waffle” sends the vacuum around a 10 foot square area to clean up solid spills (think when cereal or flour hit the floor).
bObi can be programmed to clean your floors using the remote and can be driven around like a remote control device to target specific areas. You can have the vacuum clean your house nightly, every other day or just at select times. Each cleaning session will last approximately 90 minutes before bObi will return to her docking station to charge. After each cleaning, you should remove the dust bin and empty it out. But as bObi cleans your floor, you will see a blue/green light over the floor. This is a UV light that actually helps kill bacteria on the floor. If you choose to add the mopping extension, it snaps on below the dust bin and after vacuuming the mop pad will mop the floor behind bObi.
Overall bObi isn’t as loud as a regular vacuum, so it doesn’t quite send the cats running like the larger ones do. It is actually quiet enough you don’t need to turn up the television or anything while using it. One of our cats likes to stalk bObi as she works, and the other can’t be bothered to move for it even if it vacuums her tail.
I’ve actually never used the remote control feature on the bObi vacuum cleaner, since I like to be around and awake when its working. I’ve used bObi enough to trust it to work while I’m sleeping now, but I still prefer to let it go when I’m around because we’ve had a couple hiccups along the way. There have been times when I’m cooking that bObi seems to focus on the area where I’m working, and a couple times it has jumped off the stair to the front landing. When I want the front room cleaned, sometimes I have clean our bedroom or bObi will spend all of her time in there. But with those little hiccups, bObi and I have started to have a great relationship. She keeps the pet hair off the floor and is helps keep the house clean when I don’t always have the time.
Even with the few issues we’ve had with bObi, it’s been a great tool to help me out through the house. The cleaning and vacuuming multiple times a week saves me time and allows me to more things done around the house. But the vacuuming over all is more of a surface clean, and deep cleans still need to be done – just at a lesser frequency. bObi helps keep my house clean and presentable for when friends and family drop by, and frees up time in my day.
You can get bObi vacuums in time for the holidays, but check Amazon for the refurbished models. Not only will it help save you time, but it will help save your budget as well!
