Growing up we had action figures, but in the 80’s and 90’s all of them super heroes – and guys. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but a lot of the characters weren’t exactly relate-able to young girls who played with Barbies and My Little Ponies. Not every girl wants, or needs to be draped in pink and glitter all the time. And in between building forts we did have plenty of time we were still girly, but there just wasn’t an action figure for girls. Correction – I do believe I had a She-Ra figurine, but even by age 7 she was lost to the toy box.
Last summer I was introduced to I Am Elemental, action figures that are designed just for girls, but are cool enough for boys to play with as well. The 4 inch action figures are completed articulated and have unique super powers that help empower the player. I Am Elemental is now in it’s second series, and send us a couple of their newest figures to check out. The second series has seven new figurines all focusing on different empowering qualities that children can use as their super power like Bravery, Energy, Honesty, Industry, Enthusiasm, Persistence and Fear.
We were received two of their mystery packages each containing one of hte new figures. Inside each package you will find an action figure, a soft cloth bag to carry her in, a shield with her super power and two cards for the figurine – one for you and one for a friend. The amount of items that are included are amazing and perfect for starting your own collection. We were sent both Industry and Persistence, and their shields actually can snap onto a bracelet.
The figurines are lightweight and since they are articulated you can pose them in a fighting position or other ways. All of the dolls are girls, and are in some pretty kick butt outfits and have weapons that can help them fight their battles. I do wish the dolls were a bit larger, they are a bit lightweight compared to other action figures. But with that in mind, I love the fact that there are dolls out there to help empower girls and to encourage strong personality traits.
I Am Elemental figurines are for ages 4 and up.
