Video games have come a long way since we were kids, and most of us that grew up playing games have passed it onto the next generation. Thankfully, there are a lot of games that are marketed for different ages and the whole family can enjoy them together. Since the introduction of the “portal” type game, where you place current characters on a mat to play them together in game place – the game type is getting more popular. We’ve had the chance to play several of them, but with the introduction of LEGO Dimensions, game time got a little more interesting.
We were sent the LEGO Dimensions starter pack for Xbox 360, and were surprised with everything packed into the game from the time you open the box. LEGO Dimensions combines physical play with LEGO brick building and brings the whole family together to build and play as characters from the most memorable movies, comics, games and TV, including The LEGO Batman Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, Gremlins, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Adventure Time and many, many more. On May 9, players will also be able to pick up new expansion packs featuring Sloth from The Goonies, Hermione from Harry Potter and Chase McCain from LEGO City Undercover.
How do you combine actual brick play with video games? LEGO Dimensions does this flawlessly and even includes a LEGO base for your characters to lock onto. With enough characters to get your started, the portal will help you combine some of your favorite fandoms on screen and through different battles. Did you ever expect to see Harry Potter and Batman on the same team battling evil?
Not a super builder? Don’t worry! LEGO Dimensions has you covered there as well! With on screen and in game step by step instructions on how to build the Bat-mobile and other vehicles you need for game play. Don’t worry about losing your instructions – you can find them in the game any time you need them. Bring up to seven , vehicles and/or gadgets into the game all at once by dropping them on the LEGO Toy Pad for the most exciting and action-filled game around.
LEGO Dimensions is for ages 7 and up because of the small brick sizes. But it’s the perfect fusion between tactile brick play and video games that will have the whole family playing along and having fun. You can get the starter pack for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. And don’t forget to pick up some of the expansion packs that help you unlock new levels of fun throughout the game.
